The Crystal Casino Band is an indie rock band from DC, created when the guys were in college before. The album is named for a rest stop in Aberdeen, Maryland and their love for it. It’s odd, I live so close to it and yet I’ve never been there.
I’ve been listening to the crystal casino band since before this album came out, I remember listening to it for the first time, I was in study hall junior year of highschool. Some of the songs on it were released as singles before this album. Twenty something socialist was used in a video they made and it had me hooked on them. I’m trying to swing tickets to their concert in DC this december. They remind me of Green day. That softer rock but could probably still mosh to, with a range of emotions and topics. All of their music is a banger. Their band name used to be the colonies, as seen on the album covers of their older music.
Due to them living in DC, the insurrection on January 6th, 2021 affected them differently than the rest of the country. The area was put into a lockdown and it was a ghost town. It inspired the song “Curfew”, about how we keep witnessing historical events with no way to process them, back to back to back.
Twenty-something socialist is in a similar political vein, about the ever increasing wealth gap that exists. It's also my personal favorite, with just a wonderful voice and guitar
I still can’t figure out what boys and girls is about, but it has a kickass music video so it balances out.
